Presidents Message

April 2004

I can never say enough about the great food at our luncheons. It was especially exciting to see the great turnout of 29 members and guest for the meeting. This meeting did not include a speaker but was intended to be a planning session for the coming year. Everyone had an opportunity to bring forth ideas and help set the agenda for HAVOC. A lot of good suggestions were made for projects to involve HAVOC members. A lot of information was brought forth about pedestrian safety. I participated in an education program involving the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and local law enforcement agencies to make drivers aware of pedestrian rights. I represent all of you as chairman of the MPO Bicycle/Pedestrian Task Force and work for a better pedestrian environment in Volusia County. Please let me know if you have any personal issues regarding pedestrian safety as this will be an ongoing effort to raise awareness with drivers.

Another issue was raised about handicapped parking violations. I reminded everyone not to confront anyone who is violating the law or to put anything on their windshield. The police warned against this since the vehicle is private property and it is not safe to confront individuals. A zero tolerance policy was distributed with non-emergency phone numbers of local law enforcement listed. Individuals who witness a violation should call the number listed.

There was a discussion about lifetime membership. A fee of $100 will equal 20 years of annual dues. The group agreed with this. One member has paid the lifetime dues. By the way, we don’t make any guarantees that you will live 20 more years.

Let’s keep the great attendance going and I look forward to seeing all of you at the April meeting. Also, I want to personally thank Alice and A.J.  for contacting people about the meeting.

HAVOC

March 3, 2004

The President David Dixon called the meeting to order at 1:00. And then

post-poned the meeting for all to indulge in the food.

There was a time for fellowship with each other. And for all those who didn’t make it. You were missed. Meeting restarts right after the food.

President David Dixon then introduced him self and ask for every one else to introduced there self, at this time they went around the room introduce there selves. There were 29 in attendance at the meeting with 3 new guests in attendance.

The topics for the meeting were:

1. Transportation for the handicap

2. Lucy also talks about fundraising ideas of having a silent auction. She could use any ideas that you could come up with for a place to hold the auction.  Just let Lucy know at next meeting if you have any ideas for fundraising to help Havoc.

3. There was talk about we need to get new members to come to our meeting and how we can get more information out to other people to know all about the Support group.

4. There was also talk about the beach enter. They are supposed to give all handicaps a filer saying there is beach wheel chair available. Every one should get this filer as you go in but they are not giving it out. So be aware of your rights.

A very informative report was given by Michael Porter on Pedestrian Safety.  And How during the special events accident rate increase.

Meeting was adjourned at 3:00

Respectfully Submitted: Recording Secretary

Grace Harris

MEMBERS CORNER

REMINDER !!!

On April 16-18 there is the 18th PVA US Open Annual Bass Tournament in
Sanford. You do not have to be a member of the PVA to compete. There
are also several volunteer boat owners who will take you out on the
lake or you can compete in the shore division.

Registration dates are 1/15 - 3/25 2004
Please call 800-940-2378 for more info or email cfpva19@aol.com

This is a fun time and a great opportunity to win some great prizes!
One year I got $20 for "catching the next fish" in the shore division.
It was a very small perch, but none the less it won me that particular
prize. :  )

Hope to see some of the HAVOC membership there. Disabilities are not
limited to mobility impairment.

Regards,
Kate Abels

Our Sunshine Lady needs your help. If anyone knows of a member in need of a Get Well card , etc.. And she’s also looking for an apprentice to learn the ropes.
