Presidents Message
July, 2004
Hurricane Season is here. Do you know what to do in case of an emergency? Do you know where to go? Do you know what you need ahead of time? If you answered no to any of these questions you will want to attend the July HAVOC meeting. Deborah Shull with the Volusia County Emergency Operation Center will be our guest speaker and will bring us up to date on the latest forecasts and answer all of our questions.
I appreciate the great attendance at the June covered dish luncheon. We had 33 members and guests and Frank Bruno, Volusia County Councilman gave a great presentation on issues affecting the county. Councilman Bruno, a friend of the handicapped will be on the August 31 ballot for the newly elected position of County Council Chair. Please make sure you are registered to vote and the individuals you vote for are sensitive to handicapped issues.
Although we were recognizing charter members of HAVOC, it was brought to my attention after the meeting that before I was a member of HAVOC in 1998, Karen Stafford did an outstanding job as editor of the newsletter. I would like to take this opportunity to recognize her for her dedication. Thank you very much Karen. I would also like to thank Pat Possenti for her years of work as Treasurer, Ethel Drogan for her years as Secretary and Barbara Goldstein for her dedicated service as Corresponding Secretary.
The annual beach party picnic will be held September 25 at Lighthouse Point Park, Ponce Inlet. Let’s continue to make this a success. See all of you on July 7.
David E. Dixon, President
