President’s Message
September, 2004
VOTE………………………VOTE………………………..VOTE
It’s your privilege, your right and your responsibility to vote. Primary is August 31 and General Election is November 2.
There were 33 members and guests present to listen to our guest speaker, Pat Northey who gave a good presentation on the upcoming election. Ms. Northey, who is running for Supervisor of Elections, assured the group of her commitment to continue the accessible voting machine project if she is elected. She also expressed her continued interest in the Volusia County Bicycle, Pedestrian Trails network.
We are starting early this year to seek nominees for the 2005 slate of officers. If you are interested in running for any office or want to submit a name, please contact Dominick Sileo, the nominating committee chairman at (386) 767-9847.
Please remember the Beach Party Picnic coming up September 25, 2004 from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Lighthouse Point Park in Ponce Inlet. This is a beautiful park and is completely handicapped accessible. When you approach the gate tell them you are there for the HAVOC picnic and the entrance fee will be waived. HAVOC will provide the meat, drinks and paper products. Members and guests are asked to bring a vegetable, salad or dessert. Grace Harris is chairperson for the event.
The September meeting is a quarterly covered dish luncheon. Lou Veres with Seaside Music Theatre will present the program.

HAVOC
The President David Dixon called the meeting to order at 1:00
President David Dixon then introduced him self and ask for every one else to introduced there self. There were 26 in attendance at the meeting and 4 new guests. It was great to see new faces and even those old faces, like Irene Moses. It was great to see her there. And it was great to have everyone there. Our group is growing every month and we are glad to see everyone.
We had a special speaker Pat Northey She talked to us for about 30 minutes on voting and why we should and why it’s so important to vote. Our vote means a lot we must vote to be heard. She also talked about voters with disability and differ ways for them to vote. Also did you know you can vote early? Well you can. Also she talked about the AutoMark, this is a ballot marking system designed to provide privacy and accessibility to voters who are blind, vision-impaired, or have a disability or condition that would make it difficult or impossible to mark a ballot in the usual way. (For more information call 888-761-9266)
David Dixon talked about Medicaid, Votran will be taking Medicaid. For using the Votran to get you to your Dr appointment as long as they have the funds they will be able to sever you now. For qualified people only those who have Medicaid benefits. Call Votran for more information.
David Dixon also gave us some very sad news: he has decided to call it quits. This will be the last year of his service to the Havoc group. Its not what everyone wants but we must honor his choice. He has done a great job and we all will miss him very much.
Carol Carmella, treasure’s report was: $1,282.54 plus $159.00 for the raffle tickets total balance now is $1441.54 as of August 4.
Also please pray for Pasty Rush she is still not well and needs our support, if you would like to see her or send a card she is in Halifax Hospital. Also keep her husband in prayer to. It’s not easy for him right now either.
Lucy Albanese: for the raffle drawing, she asked the vision-impaired members to help to draw the ticket from the box at this time. Great idea don’t you think? Alice Melanson was the top seller. She got the $25 prize for her hard work.

National Healthcare Drive has been seriously damaged during the resurfacing of
Dunn Avenue. The paving company will be repairing the sidewalk when they have
finished with the resurfacing. In the meantime, please exercise due caution if
you use this sidewalk. Also, please share this information with anyone you know
who visits the VA Clinic on National Healthcare Drive or otherwise frequents
this area.
Once repairs to the sidewalk are started, the sidewalk will be impassable until
the concrete has set and barricades are removed. There is an alternate route to
the VA Clinic from Clyde Morris. All others should use Mason Avenue as their
alternative route between Clyde Morris and Jimmy Ann Drive.
