Another beautiful day in Volusia County today! The sun is shining and the beach is not too crowded today yet. Better get on that beach soon to enjoy before the afternoon thunderstorms roll in later. Did you know that Volusia County has 47 miles of beach? Early automotive pioneers such as Louis Chevrolet and Henry Ford enjoyed their leisure time in the sun and found that the hard-packed sand, gentle slope and wide expanse of Volusia’s beach was the perfect proving ground for early auto racing. Ormond Beach, in fact, is known as the “Birthplace of Speed.” And of course the tradition continues with racing at the Daytona International Speedway this week leading up to the big race next Sunday!
