We are having a beautiful Memorial Day holiday weekend here in eastern central Florida. This picture is from Atlantic Plaza on New Smyrna Beach today, taken by Kyra who was busy fluffing the pillows. The beach is the happening place this weekend of course as well as all of our local waterways, the St. Johns River and the Intracoastal Waterway. Lots of people and boats and traffic everywhere! Beware and watch out for the other guy. Let’s be safe out there. There are several Memorial Day activities in the area, some of which are:
A Memorial Day Ceremony is scheduled for Monday, May 30, 2016 from 11 a.m. to noon at Riverside Park in New Smyrna Beach. If weather permits, there will be a flyover by local Spruce Creek Fly-In based pilots. This is a great opportunity to come out and honor all military personnel as well as our fallen heroes. Attendees may bring chairs if desired.
In Ormond Beach, ninety minutes of heart grasping sights and sounds will fill Rockefeller Gardens beginning at 9 a.m. on Memorial Day. Charles Long will conduct the members of the Daytona Beach Concert Band. Victoria Leignadier, Colonel, US Army (retired), will serve as the Memorial Remembrance moderator. Attendees will be welcomed by The Honorable Ed Kelley, Mayor of Ormond Beach. The invocation will be rendered by Rabbi Howard Schwartz, US Army Major (retired) and the benediction by Chaplain Willie Branch.
Symbols of liberty will overflow into every corner of Rockefeller Gardens as numerous military color guards and color corps enter and assume their positions. Additional groups, including Boy and Girl Scouts will join them. Guest speaker for the 2015 event is Captain Mark Leary, United States Navy.
There are also family friendly Memorial Day activities at the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse in Ponce Inlet.
Pics below are from New Smyrna Beach and my son and me enjoying a sunset over Lake George. Everyone enjoy your weekend and be safe and pay attention out there! Peace, Love and Light to All!
