A.    of stone and earth materials such as coquina shell surfaces and ceramic tiles and materials native to the New Smyrna area

B.    Spanish ceramic tiles lead you to the Early Heritage Reception Area

C.    A wall area will be set aside for special recognition

2.  ENTRANCE TO MUSEUM GALLERIES

A.    Design intent is to physically bring about a starting point to the exhibition galleries

Design intent is to:

A.    emulate the atmosphere of the ships that the colonists sailed on from the Island of Minorca

4.  FIRST REVOLT

A.    Mural will illustrate colonial revolt starting with 3 leading colonists

B.    Colonial-style oval explanatory panels which describe the chronological events leading up to the revolt

A.     An exhibition of 3-dimensional props with a backdrop mural of the New Smyrna wharf.  Some props are interactive when opened and visual and audio messages are activated.

6.  COLONIST'S HOME

A.    The colonist's house exemplifies the traditional structure of wood siding and thatched roofing typical of architecture of the colony

B.    The main focus if to experience the lifestyle in the colonist's home

A.     A back lit photo panel

8.  ESCAPE NORTH

Design intent:

A.    The concept is to encapsulate the colonists final march to St. Augustine, through 75 miles of Florida wilderness

Design intent:

A.    This is an open area in contrast to the previous hallway.  A period mural of St. Augustine on the far illustrates and symbolizes the end of a long journey by the Colonists.

10.  MEMORIAL TO NEW SMYRNA COLONISTS

A.    A room medallion of the type in which camp used to stamp documents is scaled up and is immortalized in 1" clear acrylic base lighted by its edge
