Volusia County is full of all kinds of activities to keep you busy, indoors and out. The heat is starting to subside a little and maybe soon we will be getting some cooler temperatures. I enjoy the heat myself but I know that most people don’t and this summer seemed to be hotter than many. Being a native, I have been through more than 50 summers right here in what used to be little old New Smyrna Beach.
Of course our Atlantic beaches are some of the most beautiful in the world. There are over 40 miles of beaches in Volusia County. Some allow driving and there are also plenty of traffic free zones if you would rather not deal with the traffic or drive your car down. There is a $10 daily toll to drive on the beach. There are passes available for frequent visitors and residents, of course.
The St. John’s River borders Volusia County on the west side and is home to great fishing, cruising, birdwatching, wildlife viewing, and anything else you may like to do on the water. You can dine along the river, book a cruise, go kayaking or canoeing, or check out the beautiful natural springs that flow into the St. Johns River.
DeLand is a beautiful, historic city located on the western side of Volusia and is home to Stetson University, a world renowned institution. Majestic oaks line the streets and there is a bustling downtown area as well.
Then, of course, there is Daytona Beach, the World’s Most Famous Beach and home to the Daytona International Speedway and Bike Week events. Daytona Beach also has a lot of coastline with beautiful beaches, and great resorts, restaurants and entertainment to be found along Atlantic Avenue as well as downtown on Beach Street and other areas throughout the city.
Volusia.con is all about helping people find Fun Stuff To Do while you are visiting our beautiful area and we also help the locals stay up to date on what’s happening with our great Calendar of Events.
